چکیده

The INTEGRAL observatory has been performing a deep survey of the Galac-tic central radian since 2003, with the goal of both extracting a catalog of sources and gaining insight into the Galactic diffuse emission. This paper concentrates on the estimation of the total point sources emission contribution. It is now clear that unresolved point sources contribute to the observed diffuse emission; the increasing sensitivity of instruments with time has lead to a steady decrease in estimates of this " diffuse emission ". We have analysed the first year data obtained with the spectrometer and imager SPI on board INTEGRAL. First, a catalog of 63 hard X-ray sources detected , time-averaged, during our 2003 Galactic plane survey, is derived. Second, after extracting the spectra of the sources detected by SPI, their combined contribution is compared to the total (resolved and unresolved) emission from the Galactic ridge. The data analysis is complex: it requires us to split the total emission into several components, as discrete sources and diffuse emission are – 2 – superimposed in SPI data. The main result is that point source emission dominates in the hard X-ray/soft γ-ray domain, and contributes around 90 % of the total emission around 100 keV, while above 250 keV, diffuse electron-positron annihilation, through its three-photon positronium continuum with a positron-ium fraction ∼ 0.97 and the 511 keV electron-positron line, dominates over the sources.

INTEGRAL high energy sky: The keV to MeV cosmic sources

After almost 5 years of operation, ESA’s International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) Space Observatory has unveiled a new soft Gamma ray sky and produced a remarkable harvest of results, ranging from identification of new high energy sources, to the discovery of dozens of variable sources to the mapping of the Aluminum emission from the Galaxy Plane to the presence of electrons a...

Imaging the Gamma-ray Sky with Spi aboard Integral

The spectrometer SPI on INTEGRAL allows for the first time simultaneous imaging of diffuse and point-like emission in the hard X-ray and soft gamma-ray regime. To fully exploit the capabilities of the instrument, we implemented the MREM image deconvolution algorithm, initially developed for COMPTEL data analysis, to SPI data analysis. We present the performances of the algorithm by means of sim...

Spi Measurements of the Diffuse Galactic Hard X-ray Continuum

INTEGRAL Spectrometer SPI data from the first year of the Galactic Centre Deep Exposure has been analysed for the diffuse continuum from the Galactic ridge. A new catalogue of sources from the INTEGRAL Imager IBIS has been used to account for their contribution to the celestial signal. Apparently diffuse emission is detected at a level ∼ 10% of the total source flux. A comparison of the spectru...

The di use X - ray emission from the Galactic center with Simbol - X

Similarly to the larger Galactic ridge, the Galactic center region presents a hard diffuse emission whose origin has been strongly debated for the past two decades: does this emission result from the contribution of numerous, yet unresolved, discrete point sources ? Or does it originate in a truly diffuse, hot plasma ? The Galactic center region (GC) is however different on many respects from t...
